Legislative Update (Forbes Act Update)

The bureau of Construction Codes is taking a final look at draft #7 of the Forbes Mechanical Construction Act.  They found a few minor corrections.  The Bureau has not found a sponsor for this bill in the legislature and I do not see them finding one till after the election and the beginning of the year.  MIACCA does not support draft #7 in its current form.  If anyone would like a copy of the current draft #7 email me and I can email to you.
The Bureau is STILL looking for sponsors for the changes to the Forbes Act.

HB 5830 - HB 5835  This bill will abolish the lien fund and will make it that the HVAC contractor will have no recourse to get payment from the fund and will have to foreclose on homeowners in order to receive payment. Or not get paid at all.

HB 4575 Death of the single state code.  This bill would allow local units of government to adopt their own construction code consisting of the National Green Building (ICC-700) or current versions of the Leadership in Energy Environmental Design (LEED) Green Building Rating Systems at a specified level or any version of some kind of standard or code.  The following are NOT codes thay are standards and have nothing to do with safety.
